When walking and standing the spine is kept in reasonably good posture, the “S” position, by means of a system of communication between the brain and the muscles in the back. In the seated position this arrangement ceases to exist, and the unsupported spine slumps into a forward “C” position, thereby creating a situation that, unless corrected, will in the majority of cases result in back pain.
“Even though bad posture may not cause any discomfort, continual poor posture will in the long term cause back pain.” (Reference: “Back Care” by Health Education Bureau).
Most furniture is designed to appeal to the eye. Little thought is given to supporting the spine. Everybody is familiar with the feeling of softness as they sink into a modern three piece suite. They equate comfort with softness, with the spine totally unsupported, unaware that “poor posture will in the long term cause back pain.”
Spinal System-S chairs guarantee perfect posture. Because every spine is unique the only way to achieve this is to individually design each one to suit the individual.
Backprints are as unique as fingerprints.
Using the Spinal System-S measuring jig the spine is gently pushed into its own “S” shape. In this position the intervertebral disc pressure is the minimum possible. A template, extending from the neck to the lumbar spine, is made from this “S” shape, and the back of the finished chair is made to precisely conform to this shape. Bad posture, the main cause of back pain is eliminated, resulting in the vast majority of cases in relief from pain.
The height of the arms, and the height, depth and width of the seat are made to conform with each person’s physical specifications. The height of the arms are particularly important. When the elbows are resting correctly a large amount of body weight is removed from the spine and transferred down the arms.
As can be seen, Spinal System-S chairs look like normal high quality seating. They are available in a wide range of materials.
The Fitzwilliam reclining chair is electrically operated, with a rising seat to facilitate getting from a seated to a standing position.
Removable arms are available for wheelchair users.
