I can sit for several hours in it to easily rising from it and not at all crippled with spinal pain when I do get up from it. It is fantastic the difference it makes supporting as it does the whole spinal column – the soft half seat for the stiff hip side – means that even the first steps I take on rising are without hesitation and pain.

I have just moved location and the first thing on my packing list was my chair which I have now for a number of years (Third job, fifth location, same chair). It is one of the few things that actually makes me look forward to coming to work where I can be guaranteed no back discomfort for the day or that evnening.

Now that my wife (work) and parents-in-law (2 x home) have all have chairs made by yourselves, I thought it might be nice to give some unsolicited positive feedback. We may look to getting another chair at home soon.

I first injured my lower back (discs L2 & R2) while playing rugby in University about 9 years ago. About 7 years ago while walking a site, I jumped a drain and felt something go in my lower back. I was carried off the site and brought to hospital.

Following months of pain I consulted an orthopaedic surgeon and he advised me to have an operation known as a discectomy. I went through with this first operation but it was unsuccessful.

By 2009 I have had 5 back operations, spent thousands of euro on specialists, quacks and medication (I was on 24 tablets a day at several points). By the summer of 2009 I was on the waiting list to have a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted permanently in my back to control the back and referred leg pain.

I heard of the Back Shop in early 2009 and read Colm’s book. As somebody trained in an applied biological science, Colm’s approach using physics and engineering allowed me to look at the problem from a different point of view.

Quite simply, it made sense. Our spines have not evolved to allow us to sit at desks hunched over or spending long hours driving. I spoke to Colm and I decided to give a seat a try. I found his approach to be professional, concerned and absolutely passionate about helping people with back pain.

I tried the ZS chair and as soon as the chair tilted back I felt the pressure coming off my lower spine.

The Back Shop measured my back to assess my individual natural spinal curve and placed an order for the chair. I took delivery of the chair in September 2009 and also began an intensive physiotherapy programme.

Today, December the 12th 2009, I have little or no pain, I run five miles a day, swim and work full time. I have no hesitation in saying that this chair and physio/exercise regime has given me my life back .My only regret is that I didn’t speak to the Back Shop before my first operation.

We bought a superking visco-elastic mattress from you last year, and we are absolutely delighted with it. It is wonderfully comfortable, and warm in these cold nights. It certainly lives up to its promise of restful sleep – both of us feel more energetic in the mornings and definitely more rested. Really good.

Just a note to let you know we are delighted with Jasons chair. There hasn’t been a mark on his spine since he got it. It seems to be doing the job that we needed. We should have bought it long ago. I severly injured my back while rock climbing. As June approached I began to worry about how I was going to manage during my exams. On this occasion all those involved made every effort to have me measured and fitted in less than one week working straight through the June bank holiday weekend. I collected my chair completely upholstered and perfectly fitted on the day before my exams. For the two weeks of my exams for the first time in over a year I was able to sit without pain for more than an hour.

For years I had suffered with back problems and had tried unsuccessfully to fine a comfortable armchair. My chiropractor eventually recommended The Back Shop. I no longer get pain from sitting in a chair for too long. I am going to France for a year next month and have arranged with a furniture removals company to transport my chair over there. I would highly recommend a chair from The Back Shop.
